NORAD Is Ready To Track Santa’s Flight On Christmas Eve
Every Christmas Eve for the past 68 years, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, has used its state-of-the-art technological resources to track Santa Claus as he makes his global journey from the North Pole. According to Fox News, this year will be no different. Santa will be dropping off presents to kids all around the world this weekend and NORAD will help you see it happen for yourself.
Starting on Sunday (12/24), kids can call 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) or visit NORADSanta.org to get the latest updates on Kris Kringle’s cross-continental trek. Until then, kids can download the NORAD Tracks Santa app where they can play games and learn more about the Jolly Old Elf and the work of the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
The Santa tracking tradition began by accident in 1955 when a young girl called the Continental Air Defense Command Operations Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado hoping to speak with Santa. An ad in her local newspaper had misprinted the phone number, so many children ended up calling the Air Force that night.
This year, the NORAD Tracks Santa base of operations will be at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs. More than a thousand merry volunteers will be answering phones in eight different languages. Perhaps one of them can explain how Santa manages to visit all those homes in just one night! NORAD posted the video below in November to share how they do their job on Christmas Eve.
