Cirque du Soleil Returns To North Carolina Again In 2024
Last month, my wife and I saw Cirque du Soleil in person for the first time. It was their BAZZAR show under the big top at Charlotte Motor Speedway and we were completely blown away by the experience. Sara has already asked me to get tickets for their next production coming to the area.
Cirque du Soleil is returning to North Carolina this summer with one of its best-loved shows, CORTEO. Described as the most enchanting arena production from Cirque du Soleil, CORTEO debuted in Montreal in April 2005. Since then, this unique experience has astounded over 10 million spectators in 20 countries.
CORTEO means cortege in Italian. What begins as a funeral procession becomes a joyous, festive parade imagined by a clown. The production showcases Cirque du Soleil’s signature acrobatics, whimsy, illusion, music, comedy, magic, spontaneity, mystery, and fun. As we follow the story of the kind and wise clown, our own humanity is reflected back at us.
This show offers something never before seen in a Cirque du Soleil production. The stage is positioned at the center of the venue and the room is divided so that one half of the audience faces the other half. On top of that, the hand-painted curtains are inspired by the Eiffel Tower, adding to the grandiose effect.
You can see CORTEO at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte for six performances only, August 1-4. Tickets are on sale now. CORTEO will also be traveling to Raleigh for a string of shows at PNC Arena, August 8-11. If it’s anything like BAZZAR, this is going to be another amazing experience. You can see a preview below.
