Top 5 ‘Healthy’ Fast Food Menu Items Available In The Charlotte Area
You’re feeling hungry but you’re short on time. Fast food seems like the way to go but not if you’re trying to eat healthy. Well, maybe you can actually stick to your clean eating lifestyle at the drive-thru. You just have to know which menu items to order.
Whether we want to admit it or not, we all love some fast food. After all, it’s designed to be delicious as well as convenient. Unfortunately, most of it isn’t that good for us. Too much fat, sugar, sodium, and more calories that most of us need in a day make fast food problematic. It’s definitely tough to find something on the menu that’s on the healthier side.
So what should you order if you’re trying to grab a quick but healthy fast food meal? Study Finds has pulled together recommendations from dieticians and health experts across different media sites. They’ve whittled it down to the top five menu items and they all come from chains with locations in and around Charlotte. Sorry, burgers and fries didn’t even come close to making the list.
Top 5 Healthiest Fast Food Menu Items (Study Finds)
- Taco Bell Fresco Crunchy Taco: This one tops the list because it has only 150 calories, 8 grams of fat, and 370 milligrams of sodium. “Fresco” means the cheese and sour cream are replaced by tomatoes.
- Panda Express Bowl or Plate: The Asian-inspired chain offers healthier brown rice and a stir fry of super greens, including kale, cabbage, and steamed broccoli.
- Wendy’s Sour Cream and Chive Baked Potato: Definitely healthier than French fries. Just don’t go overboard with the sour cream.
- McDonald’s Fruit and Maple Oatmeal: It’s whole-grain oatmeal with diced apples, dried cranberries, raisins, and optional brown sugar offering 6 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber, and 320 calories. You can save 30 calories if you skip the sugar.
- Subway No Bready Bowl: Imagine all the protein, vegetables, and toppings you’d get in a Subway sandwich but served in a bowl instead of on bread. Bye-bye, extra carbs!
