Netflix “Co-Watching” Contract Could Save Your Relationship
Has this ever happened in your home? You and your significant other start watching a series on Netflix together. One of you goes out of town for a few days. The other continues watching the series. You see where this is going.
Binge-watching infidelity has threatened many a relationship. It has happened in my family. And I was the guilty party. I recently finished watching three seasons of “Kim’s Convenience” on Netflix before my wife made it through two. But Netflix has a solution to keep me from straying again: a co-watching contract for couples.
The contract must be signed before the two of you begin binge watching a series. There are five rules which must be followed:
- I won’t fall asleep.
- I won’t get distracted by my phone causing the other person to rewind because I missed something.
- I won’t continue watching a show without the other person present.
- I won’t talk while the show is on.
- In the event that I come across a spoiler, I won’t share it with the other person.
The co-watching contract doesn’t mention what happens if someone breaks any of the rules. Therefore, punishment is left to the discretion of the victim. While this agreement may not be as legally binding as, say, your marriage, I strongly urge you to follow it if you want to maintain the standard of living to which you’re accustomed.
