Google Is Inviting Kids To Submit A Doodle
If you’ve ever searched for anything on Google, and I’m pretty sure you have, then you’ve seen the Google doodles. On any given day, the big Google logo on the search engine’s homepage will be altered in some creative way to pay tribute to a person, invention, or idea. Every year, Google invites kids to submit their own doodles.
The annual tradition is continuing for young artists in 2021. According to 9to5google.com, this is the 13th year that Google is asking kids to create a doodle for the Google homepage. Doodle for Google 2021 calls for artwork reflecting the theme, “I am strong because…” In other words, draw what makes you uniquely strong.
Oh, there are prizes to be won. In addition to having their doodle displayed on Google.com, the mobile apps, and Chrome’s New Tab Page for 24 hours, the national winner will receive a $30,000 college scholarship, $50,000 technology package for their school/nonprofit organization, Google hardware, and swag.
Finalists are judged on a state-by-state basis with 10 or more winners in each grade group selected by the Google Doodle team and three guest judges. The public will then be invited to vote for the national finalists. The guest judges are:
- 2020 National Teacher of the Year, Tabatha Rosproy
- Grammy Award-winning producer and artist, Peter CottonTale
- Award-winning author and illustrator, Dav Pilkey
Google’s invitation is open to K-through-12 students. Submissions can be mailed or made online and the deadline is February 26th at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Complete details are posted here.
