One Love: Reggae Legend Bob Marley Subject Of Upcoming Biopic
What is it about reggae music? The instant you hear a Bob Marley song, your head starts bopping up and down. I don’t know if it’s because reggae makes people think of tropical vacations but it might be the most easy-to-enjoy music on the planet. However, the message behind the music is often much deeper than boat drinks and beautiful beaches.
The undisputed king of reggae is and always has been Bob Marley. Born on a farm in Jamaica, Marley took the music of his island nation worldwide. His inspired songwriting, passionate performances, and philosophy of love and peace made him a global icon. Although Bob Marley only lived to the age of 36 (he died of cancer in 1981), his legacy endures to this day.
Variety reports that Paramount has released the first trailer for the biopic Bob Marley: One Love, starring Kingsley Ben-Adir (Peaky Blinders, Barbie) as the reggae pioneer. The film portrays Marely’s life and influence, from his time starting out in Jamaica to when he became an international music star and messenger of peace. However, Marley’s life wasn’t always peaceful. The trailer shows an assassination attempt made on him and his wife, Rita (Lashana Lynch), in 1976.
Bob’s son, Ziggy Marley, is a producer on the film. Ziggy shared how excited he is for people to see the movie, saying it will “will deepen their connection to Bob and honor Bob in the right way.” Bob Marley: One Love is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard) and is scheduled to be released on January 12th, 2024.
