100 Year Old Giant River Monster Fish Found In Detroit
Reel It In! A giant ‘River Monster’ fish found in the Detroit River was at least 100 years old. Scientists now believe a giant fish caught last month in the Detroit River (what they nicknamed a “real-life river monster”) was likely more than 100 years old. The female lake sturgeon measured 6 feet, 10 inches long, and weighed 240 pounds. Now that’s a big fish!
Experts say the fish is one of the largest lake sturgeon ever recorded in the U.S. and probably hatched in the Detroit River around 1920. Male lake sturgeons typically live 50-60 years but females can live up to 150 years. The giant ‘river monster’ was released back into the river after being processed. With that lifespan, she could surface again sometime!
Have you ever exaggerated the truth about how big of a fish you caught?
