Pillow Fighting Just Might Be The Sport Of The Future
I’ve heard of UFC, and I know all about KFC, but it looks like America’s next big thing might be PFC. It stands for Pillow Fighting Championship, the first ever organized pillow fighting league. Think mixed martial arts but with pillows.
We’ve talked about competitive pillow fighting on the show before, but it was about the All-Japan Pillow Fighting Championships. The way they do it over there looks more like dodgeball. The American version is one-on-one, pillow-to-pillow combat.
According to the New York Post, mixed martial arts fighters and boxers have made South Florida the epicenter of this new sport. The Delray Beach Boxing and Fitness Club has become the home of PFC. What does it look like? Two competitors step into the ring and hit each other with pillows. The concept is simple but it appears to be a serious workout. Unlike the pillow fights of your childhood, there’s very little giggling in PFC.
All of the fighters use the league’s official 2.4-pound, queen size, rip-proof nylon pillow that includes three holster straps for better grip. The bouts are set up like a boxing or UFC event with a referee, an emcee, and fight judges. They even have ring girls and boys.
Want to see Pillow Fighting Championship for yourself? You can livestream their events and even find out how to become a pro pillow fighter on the official PFC website. Here are some highlights from last the fall of 2021:
