Woman Cures Herself With Unusual Home Remedy
There’s something to be said for home remedies. I once met an elderly cook in a local Middle Eastern restaurant who said he drank a shot of olive oil every day to keep his joints limber. My own father, a retired medical doctor, eats a mixture of raw onions and honey when he feels a cold coming on. And according to the New York Post, an old home remedy may have saved the life of Maggie Ives.
The 78-year-old retired pub landlady and former nurse from England was in the hospital for 22 weeks after she fell and broke her pelvis last February. Her recovery was not going well. “I kept coming and going, slipping in and out of consciousness,” she said.
In addition to the broken pelvis, Ives suffered from chronic kidney and cardiovascular disease as well as Parkinson’s disease, so she was moved to an assisted living home and given palliative care. She was not expected to live much longer. In fact, no one expected her to make it through the night and her family was told to start making funeral arrangements.
When Maggie woke up the next day, she asked the staff for something that used to make her feel better when she was younger: Guinness and raw eggs. “You don’t even taste the eggs at all. You just swallow them down. I’ve been doing that quite a long time,” she said. Hey, raw eggs also worked for Rocky.
Now Maggie Ives has a new lease on life and says she’s feeling the better than she has in a long time. “I feel like I’ve come back from the dead. I’m even walking again now. I haven’t walked for two years,” she added. Perhaps Guinness should bring back their old “Guinness gives you strength” ad campaign.
