While we have no idea who’s going to win the big game on Sunday, February 12th, we can be sure of one thing: we’ll see lots of creative commercials during the broadcast on FOX. And, as always, some of those ads are already showing up online.
Michelob Ultra has hearkened back to the iconic 1980 golf comedy, Caddyshack, for its new TV spot. The 60-second ad features Succession star Brian Cox and tennis great Serena Williams. The setting is the fictional Bushwood Country Club, as Kenny Loggins’ “I’m Alright” from the soundtrack plays in the background.
According to Yahoo!, Brian Cox wasn’t much of a fan of Caddyshack. However, he is a huge fan of the late Ted Knight who had a career-defining role in the film as Judge Elihu Smails. When Cox was offered to play Knight’s character in the ad, he couldn’t resist. Cox says he has since given Caddyshack another chance and was impressed by Chevy Chase’s performance in the movie.
Serena Williams is the stand-in for Chevy’s character from the movie, Ty Webb. And look for cameos from Michael O’Keefe reprising his role of caddy Danny Noonan, as well as former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo filling in for Bill Murray as gopher-hunting groundskeeper Carl Spackler.
