Put Me In, Coach: Enthusiastic Dog Interrupts International Soccer Match
If you’re a sports fan, you’ve probably seen an animal interrupting a ballgame. Birds, squirrels, and even cats have found their way on baseball and football fields, causing play to stop. They usually end up on SportsCenter’s Not Top 10. The animals are typically running away from the action, but that was not the case at a recent international soccer match.
FOX Soccer posted a tweet (below) with footage from the CONCACAF match between the Philadelphia Union and Alianza on March 7th at Estadio Cuscatlan in El Salvador. In the 68th minute of play, a dog ran onto the field. However, rather than trying to avoid the players or referees, this happy boy went straight for the ball. He saw people playing and naturally wanted to join in the fun.
Unfortunately, “Futbol Fido” didn’t have chance to score a goal before a stadium staffer picked him up and carried him off the field. But, hey, none of the actual soccer players scored either and the match ended in a 0-0 tie. The two teams are meeting for a rematch in Philadelphia next week. Who knows what sort of wildlife might show up there?
Was this on your bingo card?
