Hope You’re Hungry Because The All-You-Can-Eat Buffet Is Back
COVID-19 kicked its butt. It looked like it was gone forever. But loosen your belt and grab a tray because the almighty all-you-can-eat buffet is back. ‘Murica!
Many restaurants closed their doors permanently during the pandemic. Some of those establishments featured buffet service, which did not lend itself to the lockdown restrictions. However, CNN reports that a few national buffet-style chains such as Golden Corral and Cicis Pizza saw a 125% increase in foot traffic from January 2021 to March 2023.
How do we account for this glorious and triumphant resurgence in the buffet business? Well, one reason that buffets are bouncing back is the current economic inflation. Prices for so many things, including groceries, are sky-high, so folks across the country are looking for ways to cut expenses. The all-you-can-eat buffet, which emerged in Las Vegas during the mid-1940s, is simply a more cost-effective way to feed the whole family.
I know what you’re still wondering. Will Golden Corral ever bring back the Chocolate Wonderfall? Not likely. It appears that COVID killed that for good. Golden Corral now offers pre-dipped chocolate desserts on their lunch and dinner menus. I’m okay with that. Even before the pandemic, the Chocolate Wonderfall was probably an outbreak waiting to happen.
