‘Tis The Season For Food-Shaped Christmas Tree Ornaments
Got a pickle on your tree? Let me ask that again in a less off-putting way. Do you have any pickle-shaped ornaments on your Christmas tree? Apparently, many American families do, especially in the Midwest, and this has been going on since the 1800s. So why am I only hearing about it now?
What’s The Dill?
If you’ve ever wondered why some folks like to hang a pickle on their Christmas tree, Southern Living explains that it’s a tradition of called “Weihnachtsgurke.” According to the magazine, “For many families, Christmas morning starts with a hunt for a pickle ornament, deemed the Christmas pickle, on the tree. The first person who finds the pickle gets the first gift and bragging rights until next Christmas.”
Originally, it was thought that the pickle ornaments were a German tradition. That sounds plausible. However, no evidence points to Germans doing anything like this. More than likely, it was an American invention designed to sell more ornaments. That makes even more sense. If you’re interested in starting this tradition in your family, you can get an authentic Heinz glass pickle ornament for about $20.
As far as Christmas traditions go, the Christmas pickle could be the weirdest. Click the image for the mysterious origin story of the unlikely tree ornament. https://t.co/c46ViaMy80

Chicken Of The Tree
Of course, not everyone loves pickles. Church’s Texas Chicken, formerly Church’s Chicken, has something for those folks. The fast food chain is celebrating the 2023 holiday season with free Fried Chicken Holiday Ornaments. According to Brand Eating, Church’s is giving the drumstick ornaments away with the purchase of any family meal for a limited time.
