More About This 28 Inch Pizza In Charlotte
Yelp’s Outrageous Oversized Eats 2024 names the top 10 most jaw-droppingly giant foods across the nation. And, Benny Pennello’s 28 inch pizza in Charlotte landed on the list.
Benny Pennello, located at 2909 Davidson St., is home of a 28 inch pizza in Charlotte that Yelpers refer to as a ‘gem of humongous pizza slices.’
You can certainly order Benny’s famous 28 in pizza in Charlotte if you’re feeding an army or a very hungry competitive eater. However, the menu also offers pizza by the 14 inch slice. And, that feeds one and sometimes two people.
The 28 Inch Pizza Challenge
In fact, there’s even a challenge for those of you who think you’re up to it. Eat a 28 inch cheese pizza by yourself in 28 minutes and you’ll be rewarded with $280. By the way, this is for regular folks not competitive eaters.
But, if you happen to be an eater by professional trade, you can still get $100 and a T-shirt, plus a photo on the wall at Benny’s.
General Manager Jessie Jacobs says of the 28 inch pizza, “that’s the largest size we can fit in our pizza ovens. Most customers get halfway through, their face gets red, and they start to groan. You need a huge love of pizza to go for it.”
According to their website, Benny Pennello’s opened in 2015 in Charlotte in the old gingham factory shared by Heist Brewery. And, ‘Pennello’ translates to paint brush in Italian. So, their location in the arts district of NoDa is fitting.
Benny was born in Brooklyn and eventually ended up in Virginia where he began making pizza for neighbors out of a brick oven. He built the oven himself on his back porch.
And, all these years later the brand has grown to include locations in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wyoming, South Carolina and five spots in North Carolina. Find them in NoDa, South End Charlotte, Concord, Nags Head and Raleigh.
Benny’s story points to their goal to provide quick and quality meals that are affordable and big enough to feed 2 families. They keep it simple like the word ‘Pizza,’ which they refer to as the best 5-letter word in the English language.
Another 28 Inch Pizza In Charlotte
Of course, the Benny’s 28 inch pizza in Charlotte isn’t the only 28 inch pizza in the Queen City. Recently, the well known Pie.Zaa popular in Asheville opened in Charlotte’s South End.
We recently visited Pie.Zaa and sampled their huge slice. It was every bit as big as you would imagine. But, it really has to be seen to be believed. So, I took photos of course! I couldn’t eat the whole slice myself. So, at under $7 it was economical feeding 1 and a half people! LOL.
Maybe we need to do a side by side comparison with Benny’s and PIE.ZAA. There’s room for lots of pizza in Charlotte, right? Anyway, whichever one you choose these slices may find customers biting off more than they can chew.
