Protective Family Dog Follows Child Into The Woods & Keeps Him Safe Until Rescued
I love stories like this! This is a great example of why dogs are called “man’s best friend”. Certain breeds of dogs get a bad rap, and this is an awesome story about a pit bull named Buddy. Buddy is being hailed a hero after following a 3 year-old into the woods and keeping him safe til rescue teams found him.
The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office in Florida posted the story of Buddy on their Facebook page on Tuesday. They did not identify the family involved, but said a toddler was playing in the yard with his siblings, and wandered off. The family dog, Buddy, followed the child into the woods.
The mother of the child called police to report the boy missing, and deputies launched a search of the area, assisted by K9 units. Shortly after, the police got a call from a neighbor who said he located the child and the dog in the woods, but the dog wouldn’t let him get near the little boy.
Buddy took his job seriously and barked if anyone came near the little boy. The department did not say how rescuers were able to get near the boy but photos shared on their Facebook page show the child in the arms of a deputy — and the brave dog on a leash, looking confident that he had done his job.
The story has now gone viral! The picture on the police department’s Facebook page has been shared more than 60,000 times, and gotten more than 7,000 comments.
I hope the little boy’s parents give Buddy a true hero’s thank you! I’m thinking he’s earned a burger or two as a reward! Buddy is the ultimate good boy! See his pic below and read more on the story here. Love it!
