NC Zoo To Give Covid 19 Vaccines…To The Animals
The North Carolina Zoo will soon be giving covid 19 vaccines, but not to visitors, to the animals. The first animals to receive the vaccine, which is experimental in animals, will be primates. They are expected to begin receiving vaccines at the end of the month. Additionally, wolves, bears, cougars, and lions will receive the second batch of vaccines due in September. The vaccine was developed by Zoetis who produces many of the medicines currently given to animals. The vaccine, while experimental, is similar to others routinely used. Animals are at risk of developing the virus and the zoo believes the protection will be beneficial given the risks. Denver, San Diego, and Cincinnati zoos have already begun vaccinating their animals. Do you think covid 19 vaccines should be given to animals? Would you let your pet receive one?
