Fast Food Restaurants Shifting To Drive-Thru Only Service

The COVID-19 pandemic brought many permanent changes to our lives, especially when it comes to our dining out habits. The NPD Group tracks American restaurant industry trends. They say that between February 2020 through February 2022, delivery orders increased 116% and drive-thru orders were up 20%.
Drive-thru orders are increasingly becoming the new normal for fast food chains. According to Nation’s Restaurant News, Chick-fil-A, Jimmy John’s, Checkers and Rally’s are all focusing more on that part of their business. Some Chick-fil-A locations already allow customers to skip the main drive-thru when using their app in new express lanes. Other companies are following suit.
We told you about Taco Bell’s high-tech “Go Mobile” concept, which debuted in Minnesota in June of 2022. It’s called Taco Bell Defy and the goal is to serve drive-thru customers in two minute or less. Mashed reports additional chains with big drive-thru ideas include Shake Shack, Chipotle, and Sweetgreen. If these trends continue, don’t be surprised if the future of fast food is a drive-thru only experience.

According to TOP Agency’s latest report, there are certain Mexican fast-food chains that get the most foot traffic. This study was done by analyzing GPS data to track visits to taco restaurant chains and surveying Americans.
Chipotle Mexican Grill won the popularity contest ranking #1 across 14 states based on a combination of GPS tracking data and a survey of 1000 Americans conducted by TOP Agency! Qdoba Mexican Eats was the most popular fast food joint in seven states, followed by Taco Bell in 10 states.
