Drunk Monkeys: Bold Primates Caught Hitting The Booze In US And India
I’ve never questioned whether humans and other primates such as monkeys, chimpanzees, apes, and gorillas are genetically related. In fact, I came across two stories recently that only reinforce our common ground. Both involve booze.
A monkey named Momo was on the loose in Indianapolis last week, and someone spotted him doing what escaped monkeys don’t usually do: drinking beer. According to UPI, Momo escaped from his owner’s home last Wednesday (10/4) and was been spotted several times. One neighbor saw Momo get a beer out of a garbage can and drink it. Out of the garbage? Don’t you have any pride, Momo?
Indianapolis code allows for the ownership of “wild or dangerous” animals as long as they’re properly registered with the city. After 18 hours, police did finally catch Momo the following day (10/5). I wonder if the cops let him have another cold one. Momo seemed to be having a rough week.
Meanwhile, in Kanpur, India, another monkey tried to pilfer a bottle of liquor from the saddle bag of a motorcycle parked outside of the Police Commissioner’s office. Ironically, the incident occurred on Gandhi Jayanti (10/2). It’s a celebration of the late Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday marked by abstinence from alcohol.
The video shared by India Today shows the bold monkey sitting on the motorcycle and attempting to open the bottle. The thirsty monkey was not successful this time, but something tells me he has done this before and will likely try again.
In a viral video, a monkey is seen trying to open a liquor bottle while sitting on a bike parked near the Kanpur Police Commissioner's office.
