Could You Give Up Your Smartphone For A Month? How About For $10,000?
Do you think you could live without your smartphone for an entire month? I’m going to admit right now that I absolutely could not. I don’t constantly check my phone and I’m not addicted to social media or any particular apps. I literally could not do my job at the radio station without my smartphone because I need it to unlock all of the computers I use. But if you think you could do it, keep reading.
UPI reports that Siggi’s Dairy is looking for ten people to undergo a “digital detox.” The company known for its delicious Icelandic-style yogurt, a.k.a. skyr, is offering to pay $10,000 to participants who go a whole month without their smartphone. To ensure that no on cheats, the smartphones will even be kept in lockboxes provided by Siggi’s.
The idea behind Siggi’s “digital detox” was inspired by Dry January. However, instead of abstaining from alcohol, the goal is live more simply without the constant distraction of technology and screens. According to the yogurt brand, the average person spends 5.4 hours on their smartphones each day, which is a lot.
Siggi’s Dairy is accepting applications through January 31, 2024. You must be 18 or older to enter. Winners get the lockbox, a three-month supply of Siggi’s yogurt, and the $10,000. And just so you’re not completely cut off from the rest of society, you’ll be given a “good ol’ fashioned flip phone” with a one-month prepaid SIM card. Good luck!
