Best And Worst Fruits To Share With Your Pup
This is a great time for fresh fruits! Spring and summer bring fresh strawberries, blueberries, watermelon and more. I’m a big fan of fresh fruits and veggies in the summer and so are my dogs. Kramer and Eddy both love fresh treats. But if you have a four legged furry friend you have to be careful. Not all fruits and veggies are for sharing.
Yahoo has a handy list of the good and bad fruits for your dog so you can keep them safe this summer. The good thing is that dogs can have many different fruits, raw or frozen. Just like with other foods, make sure the pieces aren’t too big, as they can be a choking hazard. Too much fiber can cause tummy aches, and too much sugar can make your pup feel nauseous and you don’t want that!
Vets recommend that no more than 10% of a dog’s diet come from treats, so keep that in mind. Also make sure that the fruit you give your dog doesn’t have seeds, rinds, and that they’re stemless. Here are the fruits that are ok for your dog in small quantities:
- Apples
- Bananas
- Blueberries
- Cranberries
- Mangoes
- Oranges
- Pineapple
- Raspberries
- Tangerines
- Watermelon
No matter how adorable your pup’s begging look is, you definitely don’t want them to have these fruits:
- Avocado: Avocado’s flesh is okay, but it’s high in fat, and there’s a toxic chemical in its seed and skin. It can be toxic for your up.
- Cherry, apricot, or peach pits: These all contain tiny amounts of cyanide, so if they’re chewed up, they can cause sickness or death.
- Grapes and raisins: These are extremely toxic, even in tiny quantities.
