Landlord Charges Woman A Pet Fee For A Goldfish
We all know that the housing market is nuts right now. Rent in and around Charlotte has increased considerably in the past year. Now it looks like some landlords are really trying to screw people over. A woman on TikTok is going viral for a clip she posted about her pet goldfish and people have thoughts.
TikToker @nicr_posted a clip showing the extra fees she has to pay as a renter to have a pet goldfish. A goldfish! In the lease there’s also a restriction in the ‘fish allowed’ section specifying that ‘no aggressive breeds’ are allowed.
According to LadBible, in the ‘fish allowed’ section of her lease agreement, there’s a $200 one-time fee and an extra $15 per month in rent to have the pet. It’s a FISH! It’s not like it’s gonna mess up the carpet! LOL! Are there ‘aggressive’ breeds of goldfish? I mean, I know there are aggressive fish, such as a Piranha, but I’ve never heard of hardcore goldfish!
Not only do folks online have thoughts about the ‘goldfish clause’ but people are also sharing odd fees they’ve been charged with as renters. Since my divorce in 2010, I’ve rented places in Gastonia and in Columbia, South Carolina. In all of the places I’ve rented I’ve had dogs and have paid the fees associated with them. But I’ve never seen any odd or random clauses pertaining to pets. I guess if I’d have had a fish, I might have seen something!
I think this shows us all that many landlords are truly out to screw people over. A cat, a dog, even a lizard I’d get, but a goldfish clause seems a bit much. People are nuts! If you need a good laugh, read the comments under the video. Hilarious! Good stuff!
