Newest Yoga Trend Is Chicken Yoga
There’s goat yoga, yoga that you can do with your pet, and now there’s chicken yoga. Union Three yoga studio in Tampa, Florida is now offering yoga with hens and roosters.
The yoga chickens are residents of the Ybor Misfits Microsanctuary, a refuge that houses abandoned birds. According to the manager of the refuge, the chickens are “domesticated”. They all have baths and wear diapers before the yoga classes.
Chickens are still somewhat of a novelty in the wellness trend of combining yoga with animal therapy although the feathery creatures have started to emerge as emotional support animals over the last few years. Scientific research shows that interacting with animals makes us feel better. It releases good hormones like serotonin, reduces loneliness, and helps with anxiety.
Union Three studio said it will host the classes with the sanctuary’s birds on the final Sunday of each month. I am sure it’s only a matter of time before local studios offer chicken yoga.
I’ve only taken yoga a few times and to me, it’s hard enough as it is! Forget about having an animal on my back!
