Biggest Meteor Shower Of The Year Arrives This Week
The mysteries of the night sky have enticed star gazers for centuries. So much to see and yet the “light pollution” from civilization makes it like trying to watch TV in a bright room. This is an event we might want to drive out into the country away from the city and witness properly. When I was a little boy my dad tried to explain to me how the light from that tiny dot in space left the star many years ago and we were just now seeing it. We would lie on a quilt for hours at night looking at the sky.
One of the biggest and best meteor showers of the year will arrive this week. The annual Perseid meteor shower will peak Friday night into Saturday, August 12th-13th. At its peak, as many as 100 meteors an hour will be visible in the night sky. However, this year’s Perseid shower lines up with a full moon, which will make things a bit more difficult to see. The best time to view the meteors is early in the night.
Do you ever stay up late to stargaze? Do you have a special stargazing spot?
