Diane Keaton Says ‘Nobody’ Wanted Pacino Cast In ‘The Godfather’
Young Al Pacino had not been in many movies when he became Michael Corleone. Now, he’s a legendary actor and we could never imagine him NOT being cast in that role. Could we? Apparently the producers weren’t sure they wanted him right away.
Diane Keaton has a new movie opening today in theaters, “Mack & Rita”. She says ‘nobody’ wanted Al Pacino to portray Michael Corleone in The Godfather. Keaton says she was cast as school teacher Kay Adams-Corleone before Pacino for the cult classic. Pacino got the role after a second audition. “I think the kindest thing that someone’s ever done for me … is that I got cast to be in ‘The Godfather,’ and I didn’t even read it. I didn’t know a single thing,” Keaton told People. Keaton says she never read the 1969 novel by Mario Puzo and was “just auditioning” and “trying to work” when she auditioned for ‘The Godfather.”
