The Country Has Lost It’s “Grandmother”
The passing of Barbara Bush yesterday was probably NOT surprising, given her declining health, but it’s as
if our nation has lost it’s “Grandmother” figure.
She was 92 and has left two former Presidents in mourning. Husband George Herbert Walker Bush and son George W. Bush.
Regardless of your politics, Barbara Bush’s legacy can’t be ignored on denied. She was classy, matriarchal, and a strong woman, both in and outside the White House. She was someone you instantly trusted to do the right thing. She wasn’t glamorous and even poked fun at that during her husband’s first inauguration exclaiming basically that “What You See is What You get”! She worked tirelessly for literacy, was admittedly Pro-Choice and raised her 6 children while her husband pursued his political career. Although out of the limelight, since son George W. left the oval in 2008, the outpouring of condolences and support from around the world, is a testament to what kind of woman she was. Her “Grandmotherly” presence will be greatly missed from our nation’s surviving First Lady’s.
